Save Eastridge Little League
The Issue
Eastridge Little League has been around since 1972, 1 year after the opening of Eastridge Mall. Over those 50 Years we have seen thousands of kids come and go. Many of those kids now today are Parents, Teachers, Supervisors, MLB players, Minor league players, Coaches, Volunteers, Business owners. Here at Eastridge Little League we are all abought the community, from being one of the only League’s to offer scholarship’s for kids who are less fortunate, for some one like my self as a kid was a Life Saver. I am going on 21 years old, and have played until the last year i could play. While also coaching a team, And volunteering all of my free hours to the league. 14 years of volunteering, But i had good reason. This league was more then just a place to play baseball but was my home. It was my escape, My safe place. Just like i did hundreds of kids rely on Eastridge Little League every day. We strive to make this a better place for the Youth, We have dedicated a whole part of our lives to these fields. Taking away our fields is like taking away a part of our lives, And that is EXACTLY what Council Member Cindy Chavez wants to do. For over 20 years she has been trying to shut down Reid Hillview Airport, Were our beloved Little League is located in front of due to “lead poisoning” with no logical or factual evidence. If there was even a “increase in lead poisoning” that would mean that the land is unusable. Or maybe the school nextdoor (Meyer Elementary) to the planes landing strip should not be open. Or maybe Hilview park located just across the street ? Maybe Raging waters also located direcltly across the street ? Eastridge Mall also located across the street ? The anwer is no these homes will not be evacuated, These schools will not stop, These parks will not close, These businesses will not be closed down. So why close our Little League ? Because the Little League / Reid Hilview Airport closure is the city trying to Gentrify our eastside community of already over 120k people with the building of condos, the aame you see next to the costco business center, located just blocks away. Councilor Cindy Chavez plans to close down our league and immediately build condos but how does that get rid of the supposed “lead poisoning” we were told to stay quite and no media attention. Or else we may not have a place to call home, But truth is if we are not at our league we are not home.
Please stand with me to save Eastridge Little League.
