SAVE EAST SYDNEY EARLY LEARNING — KEEP DARLO KIDS LOCAL
The issue
A petition to the City of Sydney Council and Goodstart Early Learning
For years, our children have learned to walk, talk, share, and play at the beautiful, purpose-built daycare centre located at 277 Bourke Street, Darlinghurst. For hundreds of local families, this is not just a childcare centre. It is where our children built their first friendships, where our educators became trusted extensions of our own families, and where our community found connection.
Families have now been told the centre will close permanently from 26 November 2026.
The brilliant educators who work hard to care for our youngsters will be out of their jobs. Parents will be stranded without daycare in an area with few alternative options. And worst of all, our children will be displaced, losing friendships, stability and connection with their community.
We do not accept this outcome as inevitable.
Early learning is not a discretionary amenity. It is the infrastructure that allows parents to work, that gives children the best start in life, and that this community has relied on for a decade. As the country grapples with a fresh childcare crisis each week, now is not the time to turn our backs on a successful, trusted and thriving daycare centre.
We must do everything we can to ensure this service continues to operate to serve the Darlinghurst community well into the future.
We call on the City of Sydney and Goodstart Early Learning to guarantee:
— Uninterrupted early learning service at the current site, 277 Bourke Street, Darlinghurst;
— Continuity of the current educators, whom our children know and trust;
— Priority retention of current enrolments, with no family displaced; and
— No gap in service, regardless of which organisation ultimately operates the centre.
Sign this petition to tell the City of Sydney and Goodstart: our children deserve better than a closure notice.
