🛼 Save Dreamland Roller Disco in Prospect Park

Bring Back Brooklyn’s Most Magical Skating Event—In Full

For over 11 unforgettable years, Dreamland Roller Disco has lit up the LeFrak Center with magic every Friday night from April through Mid October, welcoming skaters of all ages, backgrounds, and identities to celebrate life, music, joy, and community on the roller disco dance floor.

Dreamland is not just an event. It’s a weekly tradition.

It’s a safe haven.

It’s a reflection of Brooklyn’s soul—diverse, creative, joyful, and free.

From drag queens to disco lovers, experts to first-time skaters, Dreamland has created a magical, inclusive space for thousands of people to feel seen, supported, and connected. It’s become one of Prospect Park’s most iconic and cherished cultural gatherings.

But this summer, our beloved event series is in jeopardy.

💔 What’s Happening?

We submitted an 88 page proposal to the Prospect Park Alliance to continue—and expand—our beloved roller skating series at the LeFrak Center. But, after 11 years of producing the most successful roller skate program at the venue, our proposal was dismissed without so much as a meeting. The rink’s operations were instead handed over to an “ultra luxury” developer, Ekstein Development—a corporation with no connection to the roller skating community, no roots in our neighborhood, and no prior experience producing roller skating events.

After they confirmed, in writing, that we were “on the calendar for Friday evenings for Roller Disco all summer” they called weeks later and offered to pay us half of what we’ve earned for over a decade. When we declined, they said they were looking for “other promoters.” Then, they demanded to see our financial history—despite our proven success—and said their accounting department would decide if and how Dreamland would be allowed to return to our home for 11 years.

Let’s be clear:

This isn’t just about numbers on a spreadsheet.

This is taxpayer-owned public land, funded by your taxes—meant to serve the community, not corporate interests.

A private corporation should not have the power to decide the fate of a beloved community program that has brought joy, connection, and meaning to thousands of Brooklynites every week for over a decade—especially in a space that is publicly owned and funded by taxpayers.

Public space should serve the public. Not displace it.

Dreamland Roller Disco isn’t just an event.

It’s a lifeline. It’s home. It’s Brooklyn.

🛼 What Dreamland Means to Brooklyn

🪩 A safe and welcoming space for LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and creative communities

🪩 A platform for local artists, DJs, and performers to shine

🪩 A space where people of all backgrounds come together to skate in joy and unity.

🪩 A weekly ritual that uplifts mental health, movement, and belonging

🪩 A unique cultural gem and iconic institution in Prospect Park

This isn’t just about roller skating.

It’s about what happens when joy, safety, and love are centered in public space.

It’s about preserving the traditions that cultivate collective joy and bring our city together.

✊ We Support Diversity—But Not Displacement

We believe there should be room for new and inclusive programming at LeFrak.

But that should not come at the cost of displacing beloved, community-rooted weekly events like Dreamland Roller Disco.

Dreamland should not be reduced, underpaid, or pushed aside. It should be celebrated, supported, and fully restored.

📢 We Call on Prospect Park Alliance and Council Member Hanif to:

 1. Bring Dreamland Roller Disco back in full—with no reduction in dates or payment

 2. Honor Dreamland’s 11-year legacy of inclusive, joyful programming

 3. Ensure that beloved community events are protected, not replaced

 4. Support fair treatment of long-standing partners who serve the public with care

💫 This Is About Joy. This Is About Community. This Is About Brooklyn.

If you’ve ever skated under the stars at Dreamland…

If you’ve ever felt free, seen, or uplifted in that magical Friday night glow…

If you believe in preserving the cultural heartbeat of our city…

Please sign and share this petition.

Together, we can bring Dreamland back—not reduced, not pushed aside, but whole.

As vibrant, joyful, and inclusive each week as it’s always been.

Because our community deserves nothing less.

Because the Dreamland magic belongs to all of us.
