Westbrook has announced that they are appealing against the decision of Westminster city council to refuse planning permission for their Dolphin Square development plans.
In a press announcement, Westbrook stated:
"The surprise refusal by Councillors came despite a full recommendation from Westminster’s Planning Officers to grant consent, together with sign-off from the Greater London Authority on the affordable housing provision. Commenting on the Appeal Application, a spokesperson for Dolphin Square said: “We remain very committed to Eric Parry’s beautifully designed scheme to secure the future of Dolphin Square for the next 100 years”. She continued: “It will provide 230 new residential flats, including 57 on-site affordable housing units (with 23 for social rent), comprehensive refurbishment of the existing Estate, extension of the Thames River Path, enhanced leisure and retail facilities, together with extended gardens accessible to the public”. It is anticipated that the Appeal will be heard later in 2020."
The refusal followed massive opposition from local residents to Westbrook's plans and had the unanimous support of the council's planning committee. The refusal was also supported by the GLA following its referral to them by the council.
The objections, which were accepted by the council, centred on the preservation of the three affected Conservation areas, the huge increase in the existing high density of the development, the lack of truly affordable housing, the increase in short-term lettings and the loss of the historic listed gardens and art deco shopping arcade.
We will keep you informed of the progress of this appeal and the appointment of the Planning Inspector with the hearing date. We urge you to continue to support our petition against these development plans which already has 2,671 supporters.
Thank you for your continued support.
