Save Dinas Powys Post Office counter service
The Issue
As an elected Councillor in Dinas Powys, I have seen first hand the distress, worry, and frustration within our community as we face the prospect of losing our only remaining post office counter service. This invaluable service is crucial, especially for our elderly residents who rely on it for day-to-day postal needs, accessing financial services, and social communication.
The closure of the previous post office was a significant blow, causing anxiety and inconvenience for many. The impact of losing this last counter would be devastating; it would isolate countless individuals from vital services and increase their reliance on public transport to reach alternatives, assuming they can travel.
In the Vale of Glamorgan, the Dinas Powys post office serves as an essential hub, not just for postal services but also as a community fixture that fosters relationships and offers support. Eliminating this service would dismantle a societal fabric that we've built over years, diminishing our community spirit and connectivity.
We understand economical pressures and operational efficiencies need to be considered, but we urge the decision-makers to explore other avenues that could keep our Dinas Powys post office open. Alternative solutions such as part-time openings, co-shared spaces with existing businesses, or community and voluntary support should be prioritised over closure.
If this post office closes current users would need to get to the nearest surrounding areas in either Barry, Penarth, Sully or Cardiff.
This would be impossible for the elderly, persons with mobility issues, wheelchair and mobility scooter users .
Our community deserves to maintain its access to essential services. The wellbeing of Dinas Powys' residents hangs in the balance. Let's collectively ensure that this vital service continues to be available for everyone who calls our village home.
Please join us in urging the Post Office and relevant stakeholders to reconsider this closure. Sign this petition to keep our Dinas Powys post office counter service alive and serving our community.
