Hello, Davis Lane Community!
Happy Mother’s Day! May 12, 2024. This aerial photograph of the courts serves as a reminder of the beautiful setting at Davis Lane Park. Please take a moment today or tomorrow to reach out to the council members, since they have a workshop meeting Monday evening. Request their support in preserving the northeast slab of the courts. It seems like the least they could do considering the circumstances.
Here's their official contact information:

Updates:
The stakes in the park now painted light green and with light green flagging mark where manholes will be located for the new sewer line. The line will run straight between those stakes. You can now easily see that the sewer will completely miss the northeast slab.
Three trees are slated for removal for this project: the locust tree on the eastern edge of the open field and the westernmost two spruce trees north of the courts.
A call is scheduled with Director Janes of Vibrant Communities and Neighborhoods on Friday, May 17th. Parks are in her department, and we’ll discuss the northeast slab, restoring the courts, and the communication process. From everything I can gather, the only communication to the community was on the website and during the March 12, 2024 Open House. That all took place after the 100% design had been received, Dec. 20, 2023. The courts were in the budget for replacement as of Oct. 24, 2023, but removed by Dec. 20, 2023. The survey for replacing amenities does not close until May 30th, 2024, after the demolition is scheduled to start. This all indicates that park amenities were an afterthought in the process, and they should have been considered up front.
335 people have signed the online petition so far to save the courts! Thank you for your support!
