Save D100 Schools - Salvemos las Escuelas de D100
The Issue
South Berwyn School District 100 has to make big cuts to school resources and may possibly close schools that our children and teachers need, due to an unfair school funding model from the State of Illinois.
Cutting resources and closing schools will negatively impact the learning of all our children, their families and our community. It isn’t right that South Berwyn children and teachers are paying the price for an unfair and outdated school funding model.
In short, Education in Illinois is in crisis.
- Illinois is 50th out of 50 in providing for our students.
- The state contributes just 25% of the total dollars that support our schools.
- Illinois schools rely heavily on property values and taxes, which vary dramatically by district.
- Cuts to the Illinois State Education budget impact low-income districts more, as they rely more heavily on state funding.
As a result, our funding system is deeply regressive, meaning low-income students receive less total school funding than students who live in areas with higher property values.
Sign this petition, and tell policymakers in Springfield that we need fairer and more equitable school funding in Illinois so that our children in South Berwyn can have the resources and schools they deserve to succeed.
Sign this petition, and tell policymakers in Springfield that we need them to come together and pass The Illinois School Funding Reform Act, NOW.
The School Funding Reform Act recognizes the unique needs of each individual school and distributes funding based on the level of student need and the district’s ability to meet that need.
Sign this petition and help us write a new future for school funding and a new future where ALL OUR CHILDREN are given the same learning opportunities irrespective of where they live and where they go to school.
South Berwyn: Making a stand for ALL our children and teachers.
