The Issue

For decades, Counter-Strike has been the gold standard for competitive tactical shooters. However, it has always struggled with competitive integrity, with cheaters being a constant problem with the game. Unfortunately, cheaters are rampant in the current state of the game, especially in high elo, and I believe that it's time for a change.

Games at all ranks, from casual to Premier, are being ruined, causing legacy players and newcomers alike to steer clear of the game. The core problem lies with the Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) system, which, in its current form, is and always has been inadequate at detecting and banning cheaters. Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) is fundamentally disadvantaged as it operates primarily on the User-Level side of the operating system. This is a bad thing because most cheats run at the Kernel-Level, meaning cheats can easily sneak past VAC with cheaters having no repercussions. Furthermore, Valve relies on ban waves to prevent immediate updates. While strategically sound, this means that blatant cheaters can cheat in matches for weeks with nothing happening to their accounts.

Why You Should Sign
The rampant cheating in this game is actively ruining the competitive integrity of the game, no matter which mode is being played. It has:

  • Ruined Competitive Integrity: These days, in higher Premier/Competitive elos, it is hard to find a match with ten legit players. It often feels like a guessing game to determine if a given match is legitimate or not. The constant doubt surrounding fair play is seriously hurting the overall experience for honest competitors.
  • Driven Players Away: Many competitive players have abandoned the official Premier/Matchmaking system entirely, migrating to third-party services like Faceit that utilize more aggressive, kernel-level anti-cheat software.
  • Completely De-valued Trust Factor: The system intended to separate cheaters is often failing, leading legitimate, high-level players to be matched with malicious accounts.
  • False Bans: The integrity of high-level competitive play in CS2 is severely compromised by the rise in false positive bans from the VAC system. This issue stems primarily from the system misidentifying legitimate actions, like the use of console spin commands (+turnleft), as malicious cheating, leading to irreversible bans for legit players.

The community needs a commitment from Valve to stop tolerating this environment. We, the community, demand that Valve prioritize the development and implementation of a stronger anti-cheat solution, whether it be through a more intense kernel-level anti-cheat, or another strong solution, so fair play can be restored to CS2 immediately.

Sign this petition if you believe fair competition and the future of Counter-Strike 2 are worth fighting for, and we will collectively pressure Valve to finally implement the aggressive, effective anti-cheat the game desperately needs.
