Save Cricket from the ICC: Give Associate Nations a Fair Chance
The Issue
Cricket is supposed to be a global sport, but the International Cricket Council (ICC) is running it like an exclusive sport reserved for 7-8 full member teams. For years, passionate cricket fans have watched Associate nations like Netherlands, Scotland, the USA, Nepal etc prove their worth on the big stages. They provide life to this beautiful game. Their passion, love for the game is umatchable. Yet, instead of fostering global growth, the ICC's recent decisions continue to promote cricket only to few elite "Full Member" nations at the expense of the sport's global future.
We are launching this petition to say enough is enough. We demand that the ICC stop gatekeeping the sport and implement immediate, systemic changes to save the soul of international cricket.
Why We Are Fighting: The Three Main Crises
1. The Unfair 2027 ODI World Cup Structure
The ICC recently revamped the 2027 Men's ODI World Cup. While they kept the 14-team field, they introduced a highly regressive "Super Series" stage. Under this rule, the three lowest-ranked qualified teams are forced to play an extra round-robin tournament just to earn one spot in the actual group stage, while the top 11 teams get a free pass. This actively punishes Associate and lower-ranked nations who already fought through grueling pathways just to qualify. Just talking about higher ranked associate they compete in cwcl2 to get into another wc qualifiers to battle with lower ranked full member team, and now even if they manage to get past them and reach 2027 ODI wc they might play just 2 matches that too with lowest ranked ODI team. All this effort for nothing?
2. The "Direct Qualification" Shield for Full Members
Right now full member nations are shielded by automatic qualification based purely on status or rankings, meaning have no risk of missing a major tournament. If football (soccer) forces giants like Argentina, Germany, and Brazil to earn their spots through intense regional qualifiers, cricket must do the same. No team should be too big to fail. If you want to play in a World Cup, you should have to earn it on the pitch against everyone else. For instance lowest ranked team plays cwc challenge league playoff, cwc challenge league,cwcl2 and cricket world cup qualifier to achieve their dream of reaching ODI wc, whereas so called full member nation get direct entry just because they are full member.
3. The Broken Funding Model
The financial disparity in cricket is a tragedy. Out of the ICC's projected annual revenue distribution, a staggering 88% ($533 million) goes to just 12 Full Member nations, leaving the remaining 90+ Associate nations to split a measly 11% ($67 million). This creates a vicious cycle: Associates cannot afford better infrastructure, cannot pay their players livable wages, and cannot schedule bilateral series against top teams, all while the rich get richer.
Our Demands to the ICC:
Reverse the 2027 ODI World Cup Structure: Abolish the elitist "Super Series" hurdle. All 14 qualified teams must start on equal footing in the primary group stages.
End Direct Qualification: Abolish automatic spots for Full Members in both T20 and ODI World Cups. Every single nation must play through regional or global qualifiers to earn their spot.
Revamp Funding & Scheduling: Restructure the revenue model to significantly increase funding for Associate cricket. Mandate that Full Members must play a minimum number of matches against Associate nations in every FTP (Future Tours Programme) cycle.
