The issue

COHEALTH, formerly known as Doutta Galla Community Health, was founded by the Kensington community for the community, half a century ago. For over 50 years, it has provided indispensable health services, becoming a cornerstone for the residents of Kensington, Victoria. The services offered have not just been routine check-ups; they have extended into life-saving care, addressing urgent health needs and ensuring continued wellbeing for our community members.

Sadly, COHEALTH has announced plans to terminate its General Practice and Nursing Services in Kensington. Despite recent Federal Government efforts to enhance Medicare's reach and strength, these services are deemed unsustainable under the current financial pressures. This announcement is a heartbreaking blow to the local community who rely on these essential services, particularly impacting those in nearby public housing who may not have the means to seek healthcare elsewhere.

COHEALTH's presence in Kensington has historically been a beacon of hope and support, ensuring that affordable and quality healthcare remains accessible to everyone in the community. Its closure threatens to widen the gap in healthcare equality and disregard the decades of trust and reliance the community has placed in this institution.

We urge the local government, health departments, and stakeholders to reconsider the termination of these essential services. There are avenues to explore: increased funding, collaborations with other healthcare providers, or innovative service models that could maintain this vital support for Kensington residents.

The loss of COHEALTH in Kensington isn't just a loss of services; it's a loss of community heritage and trust. Help us preserve our community's health and history. Please sign this petition to show your support for the continuation of COHEALTH's services in Kensington.
