The Issue

There is a place of hope in Memphis called Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired located at 2693 Union Avenue Extended Suite 101. They help children develop the skills needed to thrive with their condition, and help adults the same way and assists them in finding gainful employment and help give the skills, tools, and confidence to be self sufficient. This wonderful place that has helped many children and adults for the last 25 years is in danger of closing. Clovernook is a state funded rehabilitation center, the state has informed Clovernook that they will not be renewing their contract which means Clovernook will be closing the end of march if we can’t get the state to change their minds. By law the state is suppose to offer the blind and visually impaired 2 options for this kind of assistance, if Clovernook closes it leaves only one place in Jackson, TN that does not offer anything close to the care and support or the level of rehabilitation skills and tools that Clovernook provides. Not to mention what will happen to the TBE program considering that every blind person that wants to qualify for the TBE program has to first be assessed through Clovernook. So where does that leave blind adults that greatly benefit from this service that gives them the ability to own their own business and be self sustainable If we lose this place it will be a devastating blow to the blind and visually impaired community in the west Tennessee area. We already do not have the proper amount of resources to reach everyone who needs help getting the services needed to be self sufficient. And have an even harder time getting the proper resources to children that need those tools and skills in school and virtually none for the children who have not reached school age yet.  But we are not giving up! Please sign this petition and share! We as a community have to fight against the impending loss of these vital resources that without this center, would leave so many blind and visually impaired adults and children without the services and support that can make such a drastic difference in the quality of their lives and their futures!
