Save Charlotte’s Pets from Euthanasia—Extend Free Adoptions Now

The Issue

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control is facing a full-blown capacity crisis. With over 1,000 animals currently in care—and more coming in every day—the shelter is overflowing. This weekend’s emergency adoption event is a much-needed lifeline. But for many people who want to help, one weekend simply isn’t enough.

That’s why we’re calling on city leaders and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control to extend the no-fee adoption program until the shelter population drops to safe levels.

Fee-free adoptions save lives. They remove barriers for loving families, create space for incoming animals, and help exhausted staff manage the overwhelming intake numbers. And with kitten season in full swing and recent animal seizures swelling shelter numbers, the need is urgent and ongoing.

Not everyone can make it this weekend. By extending the waived fees beyond June 21, the shelter can reach more potential adopters and give more animals a chance at life outside a cage.

Please sign this petition and help us keep adoption accessible—until every animal has a real shot at finding a home.
