Save Chamberlain Park Incorporated
Nov 18, 2018

The sort of analysis of Chamberlain Park course usage which should have been carried out by AELB before embarking on its project to destroy this iconic golf course has now been done.

A survey of almost 450 course users supports what Save Chamberlain Park has been saying all along:

1) It is a place of recreation for older age groups, 41% of users were over 55.

2) It is a primary place of recreation for Maori and Pasifika people. Maori were 9.5% of users, Pasifika (mainly Samoan) 18.5%

3) Users came to play 18 holes of golf, 76% compared to 22% playing 9 holes.

In addition to these numbers, there are over 40 children under 12 attending golf lessons on the course each Saturday. For those under 8 these lessons are free.

As usual with this Council, its local boards and staff, there is a complete unwillingness to let facts get in the way of ideology.
