Canvey Lake has suffered another devastating summer.

We have witnessed the heartbreaking loss of fish, ducks, geese and an entire swan family. Most of the wildlife affected by this crisis has now sadly died, and the council are refusing to remove the remaining fish.

While communication from the council has improved, we now need more than updates and assurances. We need a clear, firm and public timeline for exactly when the full restoration of Canvey Lake will begin and when it will be completed.

The council has committed funding and taken responsibility for the site, but the community deserves complete transparency about what happens next. We want confirmation that the dredging, restoration and all necessary works will be completed by the end of winter, so that Canvey Lake is properly restored before another summer arrives.

We cannot allow another summer like this one.

Canvey Lake is not just an overflow for the roads. It is a Local Nature Reserve, home to wildlife and one of the precious green spaces our community has left.

Thousands of people have already signed this petition because we refuse to let what has happened this summer be forgotten.

Now we need to hold the council to account. Please sign and share to demand transparency, a firm timeline and absolute confirmation that the restoration of Canvey Lake will be completed by the end of winter.
