The Egyptian government has decided to evict all residential houseboats on the Nile in central Cairo by Tuesday, June 28th giving 6 days notice.

More than 30 houseboats part of the Egyptian historic heritage will be demolished with no compensation at all.
The houseboats are not only humans’ homes. Some of these houseboats are historic monuments of contemporary Egypt that are centuries old. They have been part of the golden age of Egyptian Cinema, renowned throughout the Arab world.

Tourists from all around the world like to spend a few days on these floating houses which breathe at the rhythm of the Nile and leave in their hearts an unforgettable memory of this country which they will never forget.
The vision and hard work we have dedicated to promote this part of Egypt’s heritage to the Egyptian and international community is about to go to waste by next Tuesday...

أكثر من ثلاثين عوامة على النيل مهددة بالإزالة يوم 28 يونيو اي بعد نحو اسبوع واحد. العوامات المهددة تمثل جزءا من التراث الثقافي والمعماري لنهر النيل ولمدينة القاهرة ، وهى عوامات لازالت مسكونة بل و بذل ساكنوها جهدا كبيرا في الحفاظ عليها وترميمها ليس فقط للإقامة بها ولكن إيمانا منهم بقيمة هذا الإرث وبضرورة الحفاظ عليه والترويج له على المستويين المحلي والعالمي. قرار الإزالة منح السكان ستة أيام فقط لإخلاء العوامات. اي مساعدة لإلغاء القرار والحفاظ على ما تبقى من عوامات النيل مرحب به.
