Save Burlish Meadows – Protect Nature and Community

The Issue
Wyre Forest District Council is proposing to dispose of part of Burlish Meadows, within Burlish Country Park, for development as a football training complex.
Since acquiring the site, the Council has invested public money, staff time and volunteer effort to restore the former golf course into a thriving natural greenspace. The restoration has created an increasingly valuable mosaic of habitats, including developing lowland acid grassland—one of Britain’s rarest habitats, with over 95% lost since the 1940s.
Burlish Meadows is now used daily by walkers, families, dog owners, runners, schools, wildlife enthusiasts and people seeking the mental and physical health benefits of access to nature. It also forms an important wildlife corridor linking other valuable habitats in the area.
Once this land is developed, the loss of habitat, landscape and open public space cannot simply be recreated elsewhere. The proposal would also undermine years of public investment in restoring the site and would permanently reduce the extent of Burlish Country Park.
This petition calls on Wyre Forest District Council to:
Reject the proposed disposal of Burlish Meadows for development.
Protect the site as an important community and wildlife asset.
Continue investing in nature recovery and public access at Burlish Meadows for the benefit of current and future generations.
By signing this petition, you are asking the Council to protect one of Wyre Forest’s most important natural spaces and to ensure that Burlish Meadows remains a place where both wildlife and people can thrive.
This is not “nature vs football” there are enough spaces locally to protect both.
