Being Fit Fitness Center has been my second home for the past eight years. Nestled in the heart of Clairemont, San Diego, this gym is unlike any other. It isn’t a faceless, overcrowded entity where you’re just another membership number. Instead, it’s a community hub where everyone knows each other’s names. A place where everyone are welcomed with open arms and tailored fitness programs.

Being Fit has been a pillar of strength and health for the seniors of Clairemont for 36 years. Yet, now their lease is being terminated. A big chain gym is coming to the shopping center with supposedly a non-compete clause, despite the fact that the demographics and targets of these two establishments are wholly different. 

For many members, including seniors, Being Fit is not just a gym; it's a lifeline. The prospect of losing this supportive environment will discourage them from continuing their fitness journeys, impacting their health and social lives immensely.

We must rally together to protect this integral piece of our community and to ensure that local businesses like Being Fit can continue to stay while offering choices to people in a competitive market.
