Save BCIT Medford's CNC Machine Shop
The Issue
Recently, my classmates and I were hit with devastating news: our major, CNC Machining, is set to be discontinued at the end of this school year. For many of us, this program isn't just a major; it represents a pathway towards a promising career and a passion we've dedicated countless hours to mastering. Cutting it short now would not only disrupt our education but also our future prospects.
CNC Machining is a vital skill in today’s manufacturing landscape, offering a unique blend of technology and craftsmanship. It plays a crucial role in various industries, from automotive to aerospace, making it a field with countless opportunities. Students training in this discipline are equipped with the skills needed to enter these demanding sectors directly after high school, without the necessity of further, expensive education.
The decision to terminate this program at BCIT Medford jeopardizes this opportunity for the current and future student bodies. BCIT’s CNC Machining program is not merely about academic learning; it's about practical, hands-on experience that builds the confidence and expertise employers seek.
We propose that the program be allowed to continue until current students, like myself, have completed their education. Doing so would not only honor the commitment made to us upon enrolling but also uphold BCIT's mission to provide exemplary vocational training. This solution is especially feasible considering the infrastructure and resources are already available; it would require no additional expense, just the dedication to uphold students' rights to education.
Furthermore, we urge BCIT Medford to consider the long-term benefits of maintaining CNC Machining as part of its curriculum. The demand for skilled machinists is at an all-time high, and the school has the unique opportunity to be at the forefront of preparing the next generation of workers in this essential industry.
Please join us in ensuring that BCIT Medford's commitment to vocational excellence remains strong. By signing this petition, you stand with us to advocate for a future where students have the opportunity to pursue their passions without interruption. Let’s keep the CNC Machine Shop open for current and future students.
