Downtown Miami, FL, June 27, 2019 – The Downtown Neighbors Alliance (“DNA”) is pleased that the Miami City Commission recognized the many deficiencies in the proposed Ultra contract and sent it back to the drawing board. The DNA also appreciates the comments made by the city commissioners stating their disapproval of the terms of the contract as well as Ultra’s unwillingness to engage the affected residents to address their concerns, or to communicate with the commissioners themselves.
“We supplied a list of requirements to Ultra and the city over a year ago and that list is what we would expect to be included in any new proposed contract in its totality” said Amal Solh Kabbani, President of the DNA. “To date, Ultra has never responded to our proposals for a compromise”.
Sam Dubbin, a special counsel to the DNA, added “The agreement proposed by Ultra and the City Administration was blatantly slanted toward Ultra, and against the public, with outrageous noise levels, financial terms, and elimination of park access. This was very surprising considering the Commission had unanimously rejected Ultra in Bayfront Park less than a year ago. Fortunately, the Commissioners refused to even consider the proposal today.”
The DNA looks forward to being consulted by the City Manager’s office and to providing input during the re-drafting of any future proposed contract for Ultra in Downtown Miami. The DNA remains committed to protecting Bayfront Park and the thousands of residents living around it.
Bayfront Park is already scheduled to be closed to the public during most of January and February 2020 due to the Super Bowl fan event, the Miami Marathon and Wodapalooza and their significant set-up and load-out schedules. Adding another mass event in March would result in Bayfront Park being closed to the public for nearly five months in winter and spring of 2020.
