Battleground School was named after a Civil War battle between Abel D. Streight and Nathan Bedford Forest that took place on these grounds. It was built in 1932 and was initially only two classrooms and grades 7, 8, and 9. In 1939 the school was wired for electricity when the first power line was established in the community. By 1943 this school now taught 1st through 6th grade. From 1932 to 1967 many cherished memories were made in this building.
This historical building has since been added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. The Battleground School Historical Preservation Society Inc. was formed in 2001. This non-profit organization needs your help to gain attention in the community.
In the future, we would love for this building to be used as a community center for all in this area to benefit from.
