Bangor Cathedral choir is silent - its volunteers suspended, the director's hours about to be cut and its paid singers told they will be made redundant in days.

Why?  Because the cathedral is in financial difficulties.  These are not the fault of the choir. 

Worse, there are ways in which they could be solved.  The Church in Wales gives Bangor Cathedral enough money in grant funding to cover the cost of a viable choir.  The diocese has not been asked to help.  We have offered to raise money to cover the costs of the choir and been turned down.

Please sign this petition, ask the cathedral management to look at the finances, stop the redundancies and allow the volunteers to sing again.

The cathedral choir has been singing in Bangor for a thousand years - maybe more.  Please help us to serve the city and praise God for the next millennium to come.

Mae côr Cadeirlan Bangor yn dawel.  Mae ei wirfoddolwyr wedi eu hatal, oriau gwaith y cyfarwyddwr ar fin cael eu torri ac mae’r cantorion sydd yn derbyn tâl wedi cael eu hysbysu y bydd eu swyddi yn dod i ben o fewn dyddiau. 

Pam? Oherwydd bod gan y Gadeirlan broblemau ariannol. Nid ar y côr mae’r bai am hynny.  

Yn waeth byth, mae yna ffyrdd y gellid datrys hyn oll. Mae’r Eglwys yng Nghymru yn digon o arian grant i Gadeirlan Bangor a fyddai’n talu’n llawn holl gostau Côr sy’n ffynnu. Ni ofynnwyd i’r Esgobaeth gynorthwyo. Rydym wedi cynnig codi arian i gynnal y côr, ond cawsom ein gwrthod.

Os gwelwch yn dda llofnodwch y petisiwn, sy’n gofyn i reolwyr y Gadeirlan edrych ar y cyllidebau, atal y diswyddiadau a chaniatáu i’r gwirfoddolwyr ganu eto.  

Mae côr y Gadeirlan wedi bod yn canu ym Mangor ers mil o flynyddoedd  - efallai mwy. Cynorthwywch ni, os gwelwch yn dda, i wasanaethu’r ddinas a chanu clod i Dduw am y mileniwm nesaf.
