Cherwell District Council is proposing to cease providing core funding for the museum as of the financial year 2027/8.

If this proposal goes ahead, it will mean that the Banbury Museum Trust, the charity that oversees the museum will be forced to consider closing the doors of the museum.

This would be a massive loss to our town, and a devastating blow to our shared heritage, culture, and community life.

I have many happy memories of visiting the museum, and I know this will be the same for many other local residents. It is a fantastic source of culture and education, and I know our community would feel the loss if it were to go.

I am therefore calling on Cherwell District Council to reconsider this proposal and to work with the Banbury Museum Trust, community stakeholders, and residents to find a sustainable solution that ensures the museum’s long-term future for the benefit of current and future generations.
