The B.C. government's wolf cull has now killed over 700 wolves since its inception in 2015. The province is proposing to continue both predator and primary prey (largely moose) culls in two new draft agreements to save Southern Mountain Caribou. Meanwhile, the government-owned B.C. Timber Sales has 11 cut blocks set aside for current and future logging within the Central Selkirk herd range, home to the last 25 members of that herd. In the last year alone we have seen the approval of 400 new logging cut-blocks in endangered caribou critical habitat. The irony of scapegoating other species while destroying habitat and food supply while increasing predator access, is not lost on us. The government is choosing extermination of wolves and other species over necessary protections of critical caribou habitat. B.C. is still one of the only provinces in Canada without legislation dedicated to protecting and recovering species at risk - nearly 30 of B.C.’s 52 surviving caribou herds are at risk of local extinction and two herds in the Kootenay region were recently declared locally extinct.

Thank you to Pacific Wild's Executive Director Ian McAllister, ecologist Carl Safina, wolf biologists John and Mary Theberge, Sarah Wayne Callies and Miley Cyrus, for standing up for wolves in B.C. Pacific Wild has started a new wolf community, "The Call", for our most ardent wolf-loving supporters: there is no cost to join to swap stories, experiences, and ideas around our shared mission to #SaveBCWolves. Since the launch of the community, over 60,000 people have taken action to help us fight for the wolves’ right to live and to put an end to the government-sanctioned wolf kill program. Thank you to each and every one of you.
