The Issue

The rich tapestry of art, culture, and languages of Jammu and Kashmir is at risk due to mismanagement and stagnation within the Department of Culture and the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages. These institutions are pivotal in preserving the unique heritage of the region, yet they have become stagnant under the current administration of IAS and KAS officers who lack the expertise and dedication necessary for cultural preservation.

Jammu and Kashmir is home to a confluence of diverse cultures and languages, each contributing to its unique identity. The initiatives to preserve and promote this heritage have increasingly been undermined by bureaucratic inefficiencies. The immediate transfer of current IAS and KAS officers from these departments can mark the beginning of a much-needed overhaul.

Studies have shown that cultural heritage contributes significantly to a community's sense of identity and pride, and in the case of Jammu and Kashmir, it is crucial for fostering unity and resilience. Experts in cultural management are better placed to understand and implement policies that truly support the arts and linguistics in the region.

We propose the replacement of current officers with individuals who have a proven track record in cultural preservation and promotion. These new officers should work alongside local artists, historians, and linguists to create a vibrant ecosystem that nurtures creativity and embraces the rich cultural diversity of Jammu and Kashmir.

Immediate action is necessary to prevent further degradation of our cultural institutions and loss of our heritage. We urge the government to take this matter seriously and to implement these changes without delay. By signing this petition, you are helping to safeguard the cultural legacy of Jammu and Kashmir for future generations.
