Save Ardwick's Historic Apsley Cottage Pub from Demolition

Save Ardwick's Historic Apsley Cottage Pub from Demolition
The Issue
The Apsley Cottage Pub has been more than just a place to work for me—it's been a community, a gathering place for friends and neighbors, and a living artifact of Ardwick's rich heritage. Having worked here for four years, I was on the brink of taking over this beloved establishment, ensuring it continued to thrive as a welcoming venue for all.
But now, our beloved Apsley Cottage is under threat. After 200 years of history, the brewery has made the sudden decision to sell this iconic landmark to developers. This decision puts the very heart of our community at risk, threatening to demolish not only the physical structure but also the countless memories and cultural significance it holds.
Located in the vibrant area next to the O2 Apollo in Manchester, the Apsley Cottage has served as a pillar of community life and entertainment. It's not just a pub; it's a part of our area's identity. Over the years, it has hosted numerous bands and events, cementing its place in the cultural landscape of Ardwick.
There are interested parties willing to buy and preserve the pub's legacy for future generations. Yet the brewery, in its haste, dismisses these offers, opting for profit over preserving a community landmark.
We cannot let this happen. The Apsley Cottage Pub deserves to remain a vital part of Ardwick's community for generations to come. If this historic building is demolished, we lose more than just bricks and mortar; we lose a piece of our soul.
I urge you to join me in calling on the brewery to halt the sale of the Apsley Cottage Pub to developers and to consider offers from buyers who are committed to maintaining its role as a communal hub. Together, we can make our voices heard and show that community and history are worth fighting for.
Please sign this petition and help us save this cherished part of Ardwick's heritage, culture, and community spirit before it's too late.
