The Issue

  • The recent verdict of the supreme court on the 20th of November,  concerning the Aravali ranges has raised a serious environmental concern among the citizens of India.

According to this, the criteria used for classifying mountains has been changed , whereby any landform in the aravali district ranging below a height of 100m will not  be considered a part of the aravali ranges and hence are open for mining purposes.

This alone puts almost 90% of the lower hills under threat.                                         No wonder experts are calling it a death warrant.

Given that the Aravalis are not only of ecological importance  but also of cultural and historical significance, it is the need of the hour to raise our voices for the protection of the aravalis. Therefore it becomes our utmost duty as a responsible citizen of India to save the Aravalis.

This , combined with the ongoing concerns on the country's AQI has full potential to worsen the conditions. Specially the capital of the country which is already suffering a lot- climate wise cannot bear yet another potential threat of desertification.

By signing this petition we request both the government of India and the supreme court to reconsider this decision immediately and save India from becoming a deserted land.
