Save AppleVis: Preserve a Vital Resource for the Blind and Low Vision Community
The Issue
As the Publisher of Top Tech Tidbits, I, Aaron Di Blasi, do hereby implore David Goodwin, the owner of AppleVis.com, to consider donating the site to the access community at large before or after its scheduled shutdown on August 31, 2024.
For 14 years AppleVis has been the cornerstone of accessibility information for Apple products, serving thousands of blind and low vision users worldwide. Its closure would leave an immense void in the access community, depriving us of:
- Crucial app accessibility information.
- User-generated content and community support.
- Beta testing insights for new Apple releases.
- A trusted platform for developers to engage with users.
We understand the immense effort required to maintain such a resource, and we deeply appreciate Mr. Goodwin's dedication over the years. However, we believe that the wealth of information on AppleVis is too valuable to be lost.
Top Tech Tidbits has offered to provide the funding required to host the AppleVis website as an archive, indefinitely. This would ensure that this wealth of information, and David’s life work, remains accessible to those who need it most.
With this in mind, we urge Mr. Goodwin to consider donating the AppleVis website to another trusted entity within the access community. This act would preserve over a decade of collective knowledge and continue the AppleVis legacy of empowering blind and low vision Apple users.
By signing this petition you're not just trying to save a website – you're trying to preserve a lifeline for countless individuals who rely on this information to navigate their digital world.
Mr. Goodwin, please hear our collective voice. Let's work together to keep AppleVis alive for future generations.
Please sign now if you want AppleVis to make the decision to save and protect this crucial resource for the blind and low vision community.
