We urgently appeal for your intervention to save the life of Anojan Sivarasa, a young Sri Lankan migrant worker who is reportedly facing a death sentence in Saudi Arabia.

Anojan, a resident of Kalmunai, Sri Lanka, was arrested following a momentary lapse in judgment during an online argument, where he posted a comment on Facebook. Realizing his grave mistake, Anojan deleted the post within minutes and issued a sincere apology. However, screenshots of the brief post led to his arrest.

Initially, he was sentenced by the Criminal Court under the Anti-Cyber Crime Law to 5 years in prison. Following this, while his family appealed for a reduced sentence, the Saudi prosecution filed a separate appeal demanding an enhanced punishment under Sharia Law, arguing that the post was derogatory to Islam and Prophet Muhammad. Consequently, the Appellate Court reclassified the offense under Sharia Law and imposed a death sentence.

We deeply respect the laws, values, and judicial system of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This petition is not a challenge to the legal proceedings, but a humble, humanitarian plea for mercy. We appeal to the Kingdom’s deeply rooted Islamic values of forgiveness and compassion to grant a Royal Pardon to this young man, who made a hasty mistake and immediately repented.

Back in Sri Lanka, a devastated mother is pleading for her son's life. We commend the Sri Lankan Government and the President for preparing to send a special delegation to Saudi Arabia with a plea for clemency. We urge the government to exhaust every possible diplomatic channel, continue the legal review process with the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia, and request clemency on humanitarian grounds.

කල්මුණේ ප්‍රදේශයේ පදිංචිකරුවෙකු වන අනෝජන්, ෆේස්බුක් ඔස්සේ ඇතිවූ බහින්බස්වීමක් අතරතුර සිදුකළ ප්‍රකාශයක් හේතුවෙන් අත්අඩංගුවට පත් විය. තමන් අතින් වූ බරපතළ වරද වටහාගත් ඔහු මිනිත්තු කිහිපයක් ඇතුළත එම සටහන මකා දමා, ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් අවංකවම සමාව අයැද සිටියේය. නමුත් ඒ වන විටත් හුවමාරු වී තිබූ තිරපිටපත් (screenshots) පදනම් කරගෙන ඔහුව අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනුණි.

මුලදී, සෞදි අපරාධ අධිකරණය විසින් සයිබර් අපරාධ නීතිය යටතේ ඔහුට වසර 5ක සිරදඬුවමක් නියම කළ අතර, පවුලේ ඥාතීන් ඊට එරෙහිව අභියාචනයක් ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී. එහෙත් ඊට සමාන්තරව, සෞදි පැමිණිලි පාර්ශ්වය විසින් ද මෙම වරද ෂරියා නීතිය යටතේ විභාග කර දැඩි දඬුවම් ලබා දෙන ලෙස ඉල්ලා වෙනම අභියාචනයක් ඉදිරිපත් කර තිබුණි. ඒ අනුව, අදාළ ප්‍රකාශය ඉස්ලාම් ආගමට සහ මුහම්මද් නබිතුමාට කළ අපහාසයක් ලෙස සලකා, අභියාචනාධිකරණය විසින් ෂරියා නීතිය යටතේ ඔහුට මරණ දණ්ඩනය නියම කර තිබේ.

සෞදි අරාබි රාජධානියේ නීති පද්ධතියට සහ සාරධර්මවලට අපගේ ඉහළම ගෞරවය හිමි වේ. මෙම පෙත්සම ඔවුන්ගේ නීතිමය ක්‍රියාවලියට අභියෝග කිරීමක් නොව, හුදෙක්ම මානුෂීය පදනමින් සිදුකරන බැගෑපත් ආයාචනයකි. ක්ෂණික කෝපය නිසා අත්වැරැද්දක් කර, වහාම ඒ පිළිබඳව පශ්චාත්තාප වූ මෙම තරුණයාට, ඉස්ලාම් ධර්මයේ උගන්වන සමාව දීමේ උදාර ගුණය පෙරදැරි කරගෙන 'රාජකීය සමාවක්' ලබා දෙන ලෙස අපි සෞදි රජයෙන් කාරුණිකව ඉල්ලා සිටිමු.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුළ ඔහුගේ මව සිය පුතුගේ ජීවිතය දානය කරන ලෙස හඬා වැලපෙමින් අයැද සිටියි. ජනාධිපතිතුමාගේ විශේෂ සමාවේ ලිපියක් රැගෙන සෞදි අරාබියට යාමට රජය ගන්නා උත්සාහය අපි අගය කරන අතරම, සෞදි ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨාධිකරණයට ඉදිරිපත් කෙරෙන අභියාචනය වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටිමින්, රාජ්‍ය තාන්ත්‍රික මට්ටමින් මැදිහත් වී මෙම තරුණයාට සමාවක් ලබාගැනීමට සියලුම ක්‍රියාමාර්ග ගන්නා ලෙසත් අපි ශ්‍රී ලංකා රජයෙන් තවදුරටත් දැඩිව ඉල්ලා සිටිමු.
