they are taking the NSW government to court on this issue.

Please feel free to lodge an objection also on the Mosman Council DA tracker under 50 Almora Street MOSMAN

The demolition of historic federation homes at 48-50 Upper Almora Street in Mosman is imminent. The developer has applied for a CDC to demolish one of these houses and the submission closes soon! These over 100-year-old buildings hold incredible historical significance, being cornerstones of the unique identity of the Balmoral area and indeed, of Mosman itself. These homes not only embody architectural beauty but tell the story of Mosman's development and growth.

Notably, the house at number 48 was once owned by Mosman’s first mayor, adding a rich political and social layer to its significance. The residence at number 50 was built by John Bryant, a man whose work during the federation period has greatly contributed to the character of Mosman. Bryant's legacy includes notable creations by prominent Sydney architects Spain and Cosh. His craftsmanship is also evident in the revered architectural icons like St Clements Church (listed as a heritage item in the Mosman LEP) and several early apartment buildings in Muston Street.

In a suburb that is at risk of losing its historical identity to poorly-planned modern development, Mosman faces a pivotal moment. Mosman Council has to date chosen not to grant an interim heritage order for these properties which are now the subject of proposals for demolition and construction of an imposing 30-metre, 8-storey tower that will overshadow nearby heritage listed properties.

We, as a community, cannot stand idly by as such profound historical treasures are lost to time and replaced by structures that do not respect nor reflect our rich past. It is essential for local heritage to be cherished, protected, and preserved for future generations to study, admire, and benefit from.

We urge the Mosman Council to reconsider their stance and grant an interim heritage order on these properties, ensuring their preservation amid a rapidly changing urban landscape. Encourage them to consider the lasting impact on the community's cultural landscape and heritage value.

Signing this petition signifies taking a stand to protect not only Mosman’s past but also the character and identity of our precious city for the future. Support our cause and help save a valuable piece of Mosman’s history from being erased.
