Save affordable Equestrian facilities. 90 horses evicted by Church @ Harold’s Park, Essex
The Issue
Please support our effort to find more equestrian facilities in Essex and Hertfordshire. Harold’s Park Farm in Nazeing, owned by the Church of England, is the latest in a growing number of liveries disappearing and we would like to save it if for all those of us who enjoy pony riding, horse riding at different levels of expertise, from novice to advanced.
We care about the countryside, we want it to be accessible, to be enjoyed by all those interested in outdoor pursuits. Where will the riders of today and tomorrow take their horses if stabling becomes the preserve only of the rich and the landed.
The loss of Harold’s Park is felt keenly by the 90 plus liveries who have enjoyed its facilities for over 30 years. It gave young riders the opportunity to progress to the highest competitions in the riding calendar.
Over the years we’ve seen young pony club rider progress to GB international young riders team in dressage, and had liveries be part of the GB international Horseball squad. We held regular training clinics, pony club rallies and shows, and watched 1000s of riders fulfil their dreams and ambitions at every level.
Vicky Justice, an experienced rider herself, said: “My own daughters through hardworking and dedication have represented their pony club at the national championships. We are heartbroken to lose the facilities at Harold’s Park.
The late George Mackie, the tenant farmer at Harold’s Park, ran the yard to be enjoyed by as many people as possible while running a sustainable business. He welcomed pony clubs and many of us were able to use the facilities for rallies and clinics.
If it wasn’t for George, 100s of local people would never have been in a position to keep a horse or have an opportunity to share one. Now
We want the new tenants of Harold’s Park to continue the equestrian business, and hope our petition will demonstrate the interest and our willingness to support a new business.
Harold’s Park Farm is a 200HA farm owned by the UK’s largest landlords, The Church of Englands CBF funds trustees LTD. We believe they should be protecting these small communities and encouraging sports not eradicating them. It is a working farm, grows crops and Christmas trees and has indoor and outdoor schools, and a cross country course.

Equestrian sports need affordable facilities which allow present and future people generations r and enjoy the countryside. A number of the liveries at Harold’s Park are nurses, teachers, and retail workers who enjoy the challenge of owning a horse. If we continue to allow these venues to close down for whatever reason, the equestrian industry will decline dramatically, and it’s worth around £6 billion to the UK economy.
Harold’s Park is not just another livery yard, but part of the rural community. We have built lifelong friendships, locally, nationally and even internationally. These yards create entry points into equestrian sports and grow future sportspeople.
We believe the farm has the scope and capacity to continue to provide an affordable livery yard to the local suburban areas which are increasingly expanding.
Please help us influence the landowners,The CBF funds trustees LTD, to maintain countryside sports and its community and allow the livery stables to remain under a new lease.
Please support our petition.
