The Issue
We, the undersigned students, families, and community members of Noblesville Schools, respectfully request that the school recognizes Amelia Hill at our upcoming graduation ceremony. I was one of Amelia’s friends and was informed her name is being included at graduation but there is no seat or anything for her. I honestly think that says a lot about Noblesville. So I am hoping this petition can change some things. Amelia was a member of our class and would have graduated alongside us. While she is no longer here, her absence is deeply felt by those who knew her and by our broader school community. Graduation is not only a celebration of achievement, but also a moment to reflect on the journey we have shared—including the people who were part of it. We are asking for a simple, respectful gesture of recognition. This could include leaving an empty chair in her honor, or offering a brief moment of acknowledgment during the ceremony. Such a gesture would show compassion, unity, and respect for the impact she had on her peers. Recognizing Amelia would send a powerful message about the values of our school community—that every student matters, and that we honor those who were part of our journey, even if they cannot be with us on graduation day. We urge school leadership to consider this request thoughtfully and to take a step that reflects empathy, dignity, and inclusion.
