The Issue

In the heart of our community, there lies a special place where flavor, mindfulness, and connection converge; a sanctuary that many of us have come to cherish dearly. Cafe Rumi is more than just a café; it represents a haven and love for everyone who steps through its doors. Whether it's the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee or the calming embrace of a perfect chai, here is where shared moments and friendships are brewed alongside the beverages.

Sadly, we now face the imminent closure of our beloved establishment immediately after our support for Palestine gained the attention of a new Zionist buildings manager. The previous building manager had no issues with our pro-Palestinian sign that merely stated that a certain percentage of our profits will be donated to children in Palestine. We had hoped to support a cause for humanity in a world where children are considered collateral. While we wish to include all children in the cause, we thought it fit to focus on the Palestinian children who are experiencing an immediate humanitarian crisis. We hope that the future is bright and safe for the children of Palestine, Sudan, and many more countries. Unfortunately, our support for Palestine was not taken as positively as we hoped even though our loyal customer base supported us and the cause. In the following weeks Cafe Rumi was unjustly served with eviction papers that directly violate the licensing agreement with which our business was opened. As a small, Muslim-owned business, we have poured our heart and soul into every cup served, every smile exchanged, and every relationship built. In just two years, our cafe has blossomed into a vibrant community that transcends mere coffee and tea, it represents a deep connection within our neighborhood and beyond. We are here in this world for a very short period of time. A time where we wish to contribute to the world with some sense of meaning and purpose. We will never backdown from supporting children in need of hope; Never now, never in the future. Our cause is a simple drop in the bucket and each drop counts. We must send a message that intimidating business owners that support Palestine will never succeed.

It is the extinguishing of a light within the community; a light that has brought together individuals from all walks of life. We believe in the power of unity, tradition, and the magic of shared experiences. Forcibly shutting down our place means extinguishing a significant cultural and emotional presence in our area.

We call upon those who believe in the beauty and importance of diverse, inclusive spaces to stand with us. By signing this petition, you are not just saving a coffee house; you are safeguarding a community's cultural heritage and its spirit of togetherness. Help us support Cafe Rumi in finding a new location and fighting to stay in our current one. We want to continue to be the heart of connection for everyone. Sign the petition today and let us unite to protect what matters most.
