With Animal Control looking to purchase an East side facility to house more animals, we are hoping they first take a step back and think about the ramifications of doing so without other programs in place to first reduce Intakes. The shelter will be at capacity and overflowing in little to no time! Take the $2M estimate for the purchase and do something that will be a long-term, lifesaving solution - rather than a band-aid, once again.
The Executive Director of Raleigh County Humane Society, Brett Kees - quoted below, is a forward-thinker . . . not simply doing things the easy way, but the intelligent way:
"Instead of building a new shelter, Kees said he would like to see new ordinances on the books to encourage better spay and neuter practices.
"“I’ll help in anyway I can if they want to develop some spay and neuter laws, some ordinances, and actually enforce things. It will cost less than building a new shelter. But if they want to build a new shelter, I’m not helping. I’m not providing data. And I’m not providing access to the site.”"
