The Issue

We, the students of Savannah State University, are calling for urgent accountability and action from the Housing Office and Office of Financial Aid. Returning and upperclassmen students—who have dedicated years to this university—are being abandoned, ignored, and displaced, while the administration prioritizes welcoming an incoming freshman class larger than campus housing can support.

Students who have paid deposits and completed requirements are still without housing assignments. Many of us are facing revoked or stalled financial aid without explanation or timely communication, leaving our education and stability in jeopardy. Meanwhile, unsafe and neglected living conditions—including roof collapses, leaks, roaches, bed bugs, and faulty pipes—remain unaddressed in student housing.

The university has chosen to over-enroll freshmen beyond available housing capacity, pushing them into upperclassmen spaces and leaving returning students without secure or safe accommodations. This practice not only disrespects current students but also endangers the wellbeing of us all.

We demand SSU:

  • Prioritize returning students for housing and aid.
  • Stop overfilling freshmen into upperclassmen spaces.
  • Fix unsafe housing conditions immediately.
  • Provide clear, timely communication and accountability.

**For those with grievances about housing and financial aid at SSU, drop your experience in the comments. I plan to bring up these points at our schools upcoming forum!!!
