We, the residents of Saugerties, respectfully request that the Saugerties Board of Education hold an emergency session to reconsider its sit and stare policy for children who opt out (refuse) the state assessments. The residents of Saugerties, believe the current policy is not beneficial for either students taking the test or opting out(refusing). Also, we find the sit and stare policy, to be unnecessarily cruel for children to do nothing but stare at their tests for an hour and half. This is not acting in our students best interest, which should be the guiding philosophy of all schools. We believe that we can come to an agreement that is beneficial to all parties and does what is best for our students.
