Let's leave something to explore in Saugeen Shores!

The Issue

There is currently a proposed neighbourhood change coming to the Miramichi Shores subdivision that will comprise of 14 new building lots.

Some issues with this proposed development that are of primary concern to Saugeen Shores residents include but are not limited to:

- increased traffic that will affect pedestrian, cyclist, and children's safety along the North Shore Trail system, South street and the South Street Beach access point, the 10th Concession Road, Miramichi Bay Road, and within the Miramichi Shores subdivision. This traffic will consist of large construction vehicles, contract vehicles, and landscape vehicles.

- the destruction of wildlife and wetland habitats. Saugeen Shores is already seeing an increase in deforestation and animal habitat destruction
due to housing developments. We currently have the Peel Street Southampton development, the Acton extension development to the 10th Concession, the Lakeside Woods subdivision, and the proposed Market Street development just to name a few. It will be sad to see another development go in and kill more mature trees, and uproot animal habitats.

-this development will eliminate a portion of the Beiner bush trail.

-more reasons with respect to Provincial, County, and Municipal guidelines being blatantly not respected or followed can be found within this letter to the editor in the Saugeen Times https://saugeentimes.com/new-proposed-sub-division-raises-questions-by-readers/?fbclid=IwAR2PcGvP4JCMlMFrUx9mAXxe_8Vcz0s-57ZJfQyHpAZfdrBkAKFpTW6Pctc

During the online public meeting that was hosted by the County of Bruce on July 19th to gather facts and address any issues Saugeen Shores residents may have, the question was posed to the town councilors to start asking themselves when will the destruction of forest and wildlife habitats stop? When will we start caring more about preserving the forest and trails systems we have left in Saugeen Shores more than developmental fees and taxes that can be gained?

With this petition, let your voice be known that you also want to stop the Miramichi Shores development, and hope this will lead to more question's being raised for the future developments in Saugeen Shores!
