Does Erich Longie speak for the entire Spirit Lake Sioux Tribe?!? And wasn't it a slap in the stakeholders face that former President Kelley attended a ceremony celebrating the retirement of the nickname? I would tend to believe if the majority of the Sioux people were in agreement than more than 15 people would've been in attendance. To make a generalization that ALL diehard Sioux nickname supporters are racist is completely ludicrous. It seems that the Spirit Lake Tribe did vote in favor of keeping the Sioux name in place therefore Mr Longie the American Indians actually DID NOT "win one"!! His editorial is the only one that comes off as racist. I encourage everyone to go out and purchase the book Aren't We Sioux Enough. Written by a registered Sioux tribal member. This book gives their side of the Sioux nickname story. Please go out and get the real story. In the meantime we cannot let people like Mr Longie win with his "racist" comments.
