Hey! Thanks again for signing my petition, we only have a few more signatures to get to 3,000! I've been reading your comments, and I have some answers to your questions: 1.) How many signatures do you need? A: I do not have a goal, for the way this site works is that they will directly send this to the state legislature in increments of five thousand. (They will send it next when I hit 3,000 then 3,500 and so on). They will keep sending it until the legislature changes it. So, the more the merrier! 2.) My child's (or my) California high school does recognize dance as P.E. credit. Why then is this petition necessary? A: Some schools do allow dance as P.E. credit, but they do so in an almost undercover way. My high school offered dance as P.E. credit for my freshman and sophomore years, but they suddenly stopped this year. The high school a lot of my dance friends go to made the same decision as well. When I asked my school's admin, they said that it has been the school's choice to count dance as P.E. credits, but once the state found out, they were called out on and forced to change it. Some private schools may allow it, but I am not sure. In short, even if your school recognizes it, the state board of education does not. In this case, nobody is safe. If your school does recognize dance, you never know when it may be stopped.
