With your help, Greenway can become the backbone of a SAFER Santa Cruz County. The City of Santa Cruz Planning Department is recommending approval of the Coastal Permit and Design Permit to construct a multi-use trail located next to the unused, obsolete railroad tracks between Natural Bridges Drive and La Barranca Park at California Avenue. Greenway believes spending money on the trail is a mistake since the results of the UCIS could change the direction we take in the corridor. I urge the City not to begin taking down trees, excavating, and wasting taxpayer funds while the Unified Corridor Study is ongoing. The narrow, mixed-used trail currently proposed will not encourage or SAFELY accommodate a growing population of bicycle and e-bike commuters and others who value health and enjoy active recreation and transportation. Thus it would have little impact on safety, health, or our greenhouse gas emissions. Thank you to the City of Santa Cruz and the Regional Transportation Commission for building public trust by waiting for the Unified Corridor Study to be completed and being fiscally and environmentally responsible.
