Because the current Council has taken actions that have been strongly supported by Save Santa Cruz and those who do not want 6 story buildings on Soquel and Water St. Save Santa Cruz sent a questionnaire to each candidate to learn their thoughts on two important issues.
The issues asked on the questionnaire are as follows:
(1) What do the candidates think about the current Council’s decision to increase the amount of affordable housing to 20% which developers must provide when they build new development projects?
(2) What do the candidates think about the termination of the “Corridors Plan?”
Here is a summary of the responses received from those running as “replacement” candidates. This information is important to read before you vote as the work the City Council does will be important to the future of Santa Cruz.
QUESTION #1 - AFFORDABLE HOUSING I support and will not seek to reduce or reverse the recently-enacted increase in the inclusionary housing percentage to 20%
AGREE: KATHERINE BEIERS, TIM FITZMAURICE, RENEE GOLDER
QUESTION #2 - “CORRIDORS PLAN” I support and will not seek to modify or reverse the new planning priorities regarding the termination of the Corridors plan and I will insist that our city planning policies preserve and protect residential neighborhood areas and existing City businesses as the City’s highest-level policy priority.
