Petition update"Stop High Density Zoning for Water St and Soquel Ave. in Santa Cruz, Calif.”Great News regarding the corridor Plan in Santa Cruz
S BurkSanta Cruz, CA, United States
Aug 27, 2019

REALLY GOOD NEWS!
Save Santa Cruz is very pleased to announce that the Santa Cruz City Council passed a motion today, Aug 27, 2019, that has officially killed the so-called Corridors Plan. In addition to terminating that planning project,
the Council has also initiated a new effort that will make neighborhood protection, and protection for existing small businesses, the top priority when future development occurs along the corridors. The
motion adopted by the Council was proposed by Council Member Sandy Brown. It passed on a 4-3 vote.
Voting FOR the motion were Council Members Sandy Brown, Justin Cummings, Drew Glover, and Chris Krohn. Council Member Donna Meyers made a strong statement in support of terminating
the Corridors Plan but didn't support the remainder of the motion.
Mayor Watkins called the motion "irresponsible," but said she supported the termination of the former Corridors Plan effort. Cynthia Mathews opposed all parts of the motion. The City staff went to extreme
lengths to discourage the Council from taking the action that it did. Big thanks to those Council Members who paid attention to the community, instead of succumbing to the barrage of opposition
from the City's planning staff, who clearly regard facilitating development as their first priority.

Please contact the Santa Cruz City Council and thank them for their votes. Please email them at: citycouncil@cityofsantacruz.com  Thank you. We will leave the petition up to inform those who have signed about future meetings related to Santa Cruz. Thank you for your support!
