The project on 190 West Cliff Drive is proposing 89 market-rate units and only 10 units are affordable. This is only 11% affordable. A vote was taken to require 15% affordable. Why is a number lower than the requirement allowed? The Santa Cruz area has an average of 594 housing units available per day which are close to market rate. Some units are under market-rate prices. Why would Santa Cruz need 89 more market-rate units? Are we supplying homes to people other than our community? Too many in our community need affordable places to live. Why hasn't our city teamed with others to use community land trusts to help make more affordable housing?
The full 190 West Cliff Drive project has not revealed full drawings. Why do we want to crowd in more traffic to iconic West Cliff Drive and create safety concerns in an already very busy area? Come to the City Council meeting this Tues.
