Rescind Billy Schulte's involuntary transfer and return him to San Marcos High School.

The Issue

On Tuesday, October 20th, 2015 rumors circulating on social media warned of an impending shooting incident at San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara, California due to unusual videos posted on an anonymous Instagram account resulting in 300+ students electing to stay home from school out of fear of their own safety.  By Tuesday morning it was found Billy Schulte had created the account to showcase experimental videos he had created, subsequent investigation by the Santa Barbara Sheriff determined there was no credible threat nor any intent to threaten anyone, no crime had been committed.  School principal Ed Behrens said, "People became fearful because of their interpretations of the posts" yet proceeded to treat this as a bullying incident and suspended Billy for a week, at the end of which he  recommended to the Santa Barbara Unified School District that Billy be involuntarily transferred, on Wednesday, October 28th the district approved the recommendation.

As a student of San Marcos High School I believe:

  • There was no real threat
  • We feel safe if Billy were to return
  • We feel Billy himself would be safe at SMHS if he were to return
  • Billy should return to San Marcos to complete his senior year
