Sanford-Fritch ISD Dress Code

The Issue

Women at our campus have been getting treated unfairly because of the clothes we wear. We can’t have shorts too short, nor too tight, our tank tops can’t be less than 4 fingers, we can’t wear legging, our bras can’t be showing, we can’t show our stomachs, we can’t have our shirts covering our shorts, the shirts can’t be too low cut, etc.

As the weather is getting warmer we want to wear shorts but nothing we wear is good enough for the school. The school can’t expect us to wear jeans and sweatpants outside in the time they force us to have when the weather is getting to be this extreme.

Women can’t even focus on learning. We are constantly worried about whether our outfits fit the guidelines instead of paying attention in class. It’s distracting, stressful, and unfair. If the dress code won’t change, the school should at least provide a reasonable alternative that isn’t pants when it’s getting well over 90 degrees in Fritch. Wearing anything other than shorts in those heat waves we constantly have is horrible.

And on top of that, the dress code is not enforced equally. Girls are targeted more often and always judged by what we like to wear. It always makes an uncomfortable and unfair environment. We should not be made to feel like a “distraction” just for wearing clothes that help us stay cool and comfortable. Our education should matter more than policing our bodies.

Students in Fritch deserve to feel respected, safe, and able to learn without being singled out over clothing. Updating the dress code to be more fair, practical, and more equal would improve not only comfort but also focus and school experience. This is not about breaking rules, it’s about creating rules that actually make sense for everyone.
