Hi Guys,
I received the following from Sabina Zafar, who is running for city council:
Dear Neighbors
I am running for San Ramon City Council to represent you and be YOUR voice on city council!
I was impressed by your true grassroots effort in not only opposing the Norris Creek off ramps, but changing the minds of our elected officials and killing this proposal. I fully agreed with you and signed the change.org online petition to oppose the off-ramps. You proved that organizing and giving voice to our residents is important and effective.
Like you I am running a grassroots campaign and my top priorities are:
* To be the voice of all San Ramon residents as a member of the city council. We can do more, using technology and social media, to open up new lines of communication between the community and the city council to engage the public and receive more input from residents in local government decisions.
* To preserve our open space and to grow responsibly so we do not add further strain to our already congested local streets and city services. I am a technology executive and believe we can do more to engage the use of smart city initiatives and technological innovation to improve city services and reduce congestion.
I am proud to be the only candidate to receive the endorsement of the Sierra Club.
* I strongly support the sanctity of the Urban Limit Line and am opposed to any development outside this voter-approved protection of open space. In addition to the loss of open space, building outside the ULL will result in loss of agricultural lands, increased car traffic and carbon emissions contributing to climate change, and impacts to water resources.
* Our golf courses are protected by the voter approved General Plan. I will honor the voter’s decision.
* I oppose the Church of the Valley Project as it is now proposed. It is a clear violation of the Creek Setback Ordinance and is too close to neighboring houses. I also oppose development of Tassajara Parks, the 125-housing unit project in the Tassajara Valley. It is outside the ULL and will open the door for more development of protected open space.
Most of all; I will prioritize resident’s interests first and foremost.
Sincerely,
Sabina Zafar
