Hi Guys,
Just thought I'd update you, in regards to my understanding of the City Council meeting last Tuesday. Essentially, the council wants to increase the number of housing units in San Ramon by around 7,200, by 2035. Where are they planning on putting all this housing? There are 35 areas under consideration (I don't know where these are exactly). The other explanation was labeled "in-filling", basically increasing the density of housing in areas that are already occupied.
The proposal under consideration was called Tiered Development. My understanding of this, is to still aim at the 7,200 housing units, but for San Ramon to gain some public benefit from all this development, say a fountain or a sculpture. Lord knows, we don't have enough sculptures in San Ramon ...
The meeting ended with a proposal to continue discussion on how to implement this development plan.
One of the confusing aspects of all this, was the repeated use of the phrase "lowered density". How does this apply to increasing units (increased density), you may ask? It puts some resistance to the automatic granting of say, 50 units per acre, by requiring the developer to give something to the community. The implication being, that some developers may balk at giving. Note, the goal is still ... 7,200 units.
