Stop Trash Pollution at Pacific Beach

The Issue

My family and I recently stayed in Pacific Beach, San Diego. I am appalled at the city’s negligence in keeping it’s environment clean. I try to teach my kids to be respectful, not litter, and to be a positive influence to their earth by helping to pick up trash. We have done numerous beach cleanups in our area. We love our beaches, our ocean, and the animals that live in it. One day when the tide was low, we went out to find treasures, but sadly, most of what we found was trash. I then decided to try to pick up as much trash as we walked. As days went by, I realized there was no point. The trash cans on Pacific Beach are tiny, old, and uncovered. Every afternoon the seagulls attack the trash cans, taking everything that’s been put in it out onto the beach. I don’t blame them, it’s a great place to find food. Then after all of that trash has been strewn everywhere, the tide comes up and takes all that trash into the ocean. You might as well not even have trash cans. Where I live, we have very large trash cans that are covered. The birds can’t get into it. Our beaches are pristine in comparison. I love San Diego. It has many great things to do, beautiful natural environments that people love to visit. Take care of it! After my last visit, I have a bad taste in my mouth for the city and county government.
