These two have been rescued from Big Bear Animal Care and Control. Thank you Milena Popovich of www.plsdontkillme.org who saved them. Send your donations via paypal to milena@plsdontkillme.org.
These two dogs were placed on DEATH ROW because they showed "odd" behavior when they were separated from their owners at the Big Bear facility. We offered to pay for the dogs to have a behavioral test and Kelly at Devore Animal Care and Control refused. Why? She told us even if the behavior test showed the dogs were not aggressive, they would not change their "aggressive" label. Why are we allowing our City Council to get away with NOT CHANGING THINGS at our Big Bear facility when they are so obviously broken? We love animals in Big Bear and can do BETTER! By going NO KILL, we simply add ONE STEP between a dog's death and a dog's life. We insert ETHICAL JUDGEMENT. St. Louis, MO decided to hire a local rescue owner to make decisions about whether or not animals live or die instead of leaving it to the county staff. A city in Texas uses an Ethics Board when ordering an animal to be killed. The board reviews the animals behavior on video or medical records provided by a vet before killing it. Our Big Bear Care and Control facility provides no medical care on-site and does not allow for temperment testing of animals before they are killed. Our city does not use an animal rescue to provide life and death decisions to our homeless animals nor do we utilize an ETHICS BOARD that would be free to utilize before making these life and death decisions for our homeless population.
If you are a compassionate animal lover and live in Big Bear Lake, please consider running for City Council this November. If you are interested, please contact me at 213-948-3165 and I will help you bring out the vote. If you are on the City Council currently and want to begin caring for our animals at our Big Bear 'Care' facility, call me and I'll help organize votes to keep you on the council. It's time to REFLECT the will of Big Bear locals instead of the will of the County lawyers. It's time to make our animal care facility a true SHELTER for the homeless.
Attachment: Photo attached are the two "aggressive" dogs that were rescued. They are still looking to be adopted. They are playful and provide lots of love and kisses. You would have never known this based on the report that Devore and our animal care facility provided to the general public. I have more than 30 minutes of video footage of these dogs calmly sitting at the shelter. No barking. Just kisses. There is NO EVIDENCE of aggressive behavior beyond a shelter staff member's report of "odd" behavior when she separated them from their humans.
