The dog with animal identification number A689194 was adopted from the Devore animal shelter. Subsequent to the adoption of the dog the bit a person, the dog was brought to the animal shelter located in Devore where the owner surrendered the dog to the shelter because of the bite. The dog was quarantined for 10 days and after the quarantine period ended the dog was euthanized. Please see below for the answers to your questions. Thank you for allowing me to answer your questions. Greg Beck Program Manager Animal Care and Control Department of Public Health Phone: 909-382-3926 Fax: 909-387-0125 351 N. Mt. How do you euthanize a tiny and very young dog who bites out of fear? Who determined that she should die. I have a tiny Chihuahua – they snap out of fear, they shake out of fear. They are little dogs and people are giants to them. Killing this dog for ONE alleged bite is absurd and totally out of line and against Hayden’s Law. We are not going to go away, nor are we going to stop broadcasting these atrocities committed at Devore. At this point I would like to address the violation of the Hayden law because this Chihuahua was not brought into court with a bite case, she was killed on hearsay from the owner. I believe that the shelter has liability for killing this dog without a court case to verify the bite. Is Rocky, the 8 weeks old BABY in quarantine going to suffer the same fate? Why is an 8 weeks old baby in quarantine to begin with? This too is absurd. We are trying to get the media involved in these 2 cases. https://www.facebook.com/118795328205474/photos/ms.c.eJxFy9EJACAMA9GNJLGpqfsvJijq7~_OOOcExJQmMYuMFO2TqQRKjIF~;IvhfHX05RvziABRHGFGQ~-.bps.a.407457879339216.97606.118795328205474/1590169521068040/?type=3&theater ROCKY - ID #A689704 (available 2/22) *RESCUE ONLY* FOR A BITE; BROKE THE SKIN IN QUARANTINE - RESCUE MUST CALL - CONFIRMED TODAY 02/22 IS THE RELEASE DATE I am a male, black and white Labrador Retriever mix. The shelter staff think I am about 8 weeks old. http://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=SBCO1.A689704 I have been at the shelter since Feb 03, 2018. We are NOT giving up on our quest for JUSTICE for Maggie and Rocky! If Rocky is euthanized, the outcry from the public will be swift. Please advise WHEN Rocky will be available to RESCUES! We will have a RESCUE for him! Thank you, Terri McCabe Our job is to create a county in which those who reside and invest can prosper and achieve well-being. www.SBCounty.gov ********************************************************** THIS IS AN EMAIL THAT I SENT AND GREG BECK RESPONDED BACK WITH THE "ANSWERS" TO MY QUESTIONS. From: Terri McCabe [mailto:tmccabe321@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 14, 2018 10:38 AM To: Cronin, Brian ; Beck, Greg ; Wilson, Nishalet ; Papp, Kelly Subject: MAGGIE - ID #A689194 (in quarantine until 2/14) To Brian Cronin, Greg Beck, Nishlet Wilson and Kelly Papp! I am the author of the Petition against Devore. I have stated this before and am stating it again: THE WORLD IS WATCHING. I am being contacted by people in other COUNTRIES who are following Devore. I am doing 1-3 updates DAILY on this petition and ALL updates are emailed to every single person who has signed this petition – close to 32K now. We have obtained over 1K signatures in just the last few days. People are outraged at the evilness at Devore. The senseless killings, the absolute refusal to allow volunteers into the shelter to visit the dogs – obviously YOU ALL have things to hide there. I want to know and so do the 32K people who are seeing my post about Devore KIILLING Maggie, a TINY ONE year old Chihuahua. I have an 8 yr old Chihuahua – have had her since she was 12 weeks old. I have also been bitten by her and I can tell you that their bites do NOT cause devastating damage – they do not warrant putting a ONE YEAR BABY to DEATH. Her release date was today! HOW WAS IT THAT SHE WAS KILLED YESTERDAY AND NEVER PERMITTED TO BE RESCUED TODAY. SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN RESCUED – I HAVE NO DOUBTS ABOUT THAT. There is a law in place (Hayden’s Law) which prohibits evil people like yourselves from killing innocent animals. This was a CHIHUAHUA, a CHIHUAHUA for God’s sake. I want you all to know that I will not stop until you are all shut down or replaced by HUMANS who have compassion for homeless animals. Look up the meaning of SHELTER. Devore is a death camp, not a shelter. These dogs have a better chance of survival on the STREETS than they do at Devore. Please answer the following questions: 1. Why are volunteers NOT allowed into the shelter? Answer: San Bernardino County Animal Care and Control utilizes volunteers to assist at off site adoption events, assistance with shelter tasks is accomplished by using the assistance of those individuals who volunteer to complete their court ordered community service at our animal shelters. 2. Why are dogs who have a COLD, a minor injury euth listed on their release date and murdered if not rescued? Answer: The State of California defines a adoptable animal only those animals eight weeks of age or older that, at or subsequent to the time the animal is impounded or otherwise taken into possession, have manifested no sign of a behavioral or temperamental defect that could pose a health or safety risk or otherwise make the animal unsuitable for placement as a pet, and have manifested no sign of disease, injury, or congenital or hereditary condition that adversely affects the health of the animal or that is likely to adversely affect the animal’s health in the future. The State of California mandated minimum hold period is seventy-two 72 hours or three (3) days, with exceptions as outlined in law. In San Bernardino County the mandated minimum hold period is ninety-six (96) hours or four (4) days, with exceptions as outlined in law, which means that the County of San Bernardino exceeds the State of California’s minimum hold period. Animals which have been held for the mandatory hold period are made available for adoption or euthanasia. Based upon a case-by-case review of an animal’s status it may be placed upon a euthanasia list the date that it is available and euthanized if it is not adopted. 3. Why are tiny terriers EUTH LISTED and rescue only for BARKING? Answer: The State of California defines a adoptable animal only those animals eight weeks of age or older that, at or subsequent to the time the animal is impounded or otherwise taken into possession, have manifested no sign of a behavioral or temperamental defect that could pose a health or safety risk or otherwise make the animal unsuitable for placement as a pet, and have manifested no sign of disease, injury, or congenital or hereditary condition that adversely affects the health of the animal or that is likely to adversely affect the animal’s health in the future. If the barking was such that the dog displayed a behavioral or temperamental defect the dog would be labeled rescue only, if the same dog had been held for the mandatory hold period it would be made available for adoption or euthanasia, which may include being placed on a euthanasia list. 4. Why are tiny Chihuahua who are normally scared little dogs euth listed and made rescue only for showing fear? Answer: The State of California defines a adoptable animal only those animals eight weeks of age or older that, at or subsequent to the time the animal is impounded or otherwise taken into possession, have manifested no sign of a behavioral or temperamental defect that could pose a health or safety risk or otherwise make the animal unsuitable for placement as a pet, and have manifested no sign of disease, injury, or congenital or hereditary condition that adversely affects the health of the animal or that is likely to adversely affect the animal’s health in the future. If the fear was such that the dog displayed a behavioral or temperamental defect the dog would be labeled rescue only, if the same dog had been held for the mandatory hold period it would be made available for adoption or euthanasia, which may include being placed on a euthanasia list. 5. Why are tiny dogs made rescue only for “aggressive behavior”? Answer: The State of California defines a adoptable animal only those animals eight weeks of age or older that, at or subsequent to the time the animal is impounded or otherwise taken into possession, have manifested no sign of a behavioral or temperamental defect that could pose a health or safety risk or otherwise make the animal unsuitable for placement as a pet, and have manifested no sign of disease, injury, or congenital or hereditary condition that adversely affects the health of the animal or that is likely to adversely affect the animal’s health in the future. Regardless of the size of an animal, if the aggressive behavior was such that the dog displayed a behavioral or temperamental defect the dog would be labeled rescue only, if the same dog had been held for the mandatory hold period it would be made available for adoption or euthanasia, which may include being placed on a euthanasia list. 6. How many people at Devore are ANIMAL Behaviorists? Answer: None How many have training to label a dog aggressive or fearful? Answer: The staff working at San Bernardino Animal shelters interact with animals on a daily basis and observe animal behavior daily, staff also rely on information provided to them by the public, this information is noted on in an animals history and is what is used to provide information regarding an animal’s observed behavior. Where are their credentials? Answer: There are no credentials. 7. Why are you killing dogs when you have empty kennels? Answer: The County of San Bernardino serves the people of San Bernardino County and is open seven (7) days a week, animals enter the shelter on a daily basis and room is needed for those animals which will enter the shelter throughout the day. On a case-by-case basis shelter staff may hold animals longer than the minimum hold period but there is no requirement to hold animals beyond the minimum hold period 8. Whose pockets are being lined with profits from killing these dogs? Answer: San Bernardino County Animal Care and Control does not profit from the euthanasia of animals at its shelters. I am serious about wanting answers to these questions. I know you all feel like you can ignore the public and those asking questions. I know you all feel like you can do what you want without consequence, you CANNOT! Hopefully, when or if any of you end up homeless or old and sick that the HUMANS caring for you show you more compassion and caring than you have shown to these animals. Karma. Karma. Karma. What goes around come around ten fold. Mahatma Gandhi — 'The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.' What do your actions say about your morales? MAGGIE - ID #A689194 (in quarantine until 2/14) – PUT TO DEATH 2/13/18 **Returned to Devore after being adopted a few days ago.
