Petition updateSalvation Army: Stop mistreating your officers by denying early leavers a pensionSalvation Army Petition Update

It is two years since the launching of this petition about the Salvation Army’s mistreatment of its officers (ministers). I am still struck by what good people the SA has engaging with its mission, but sadly I often hear from or about those who are badly affected by its policies. I’m particularly thinking about the survivors of horrific child abuse in Australia, the members of the LGBT community who have often been made to feel unaccepted (and yet are probably one of the best gifts to the church as a whole), and officers suffering the traumatic effects of the policy on pensions.
It breaks my heart each time an officer shares with me how badly they are treated at times of great personal challenge, or how trapped they feel by the pensions policy. Salvationists themselves remain largely silent on all the key issues I mention above. It is as if they do not have a voice. This is part of the culture and needs to change if the SA is to have any future bearing on the western world. Part of the problem lies in the branding which is perceived as being of more importance than relationship or compassion. The values of business and commerce, as well as the prevailing values of politics generally, have been embraced at the expense of love, truth and justice.
Christ is coming.... It is NOT ok to stay as we are!
